My first explorations of Grey/Bruce took place at the top of this ridge in 1973. Skinners Bluff is part of the Bruce Trail.
As I descended, my VW Beetle encountered a rough rocky downward plunge to a water filled old corduroy road. With nowhere to turn back (who would anyone want to climb that hill) I proceeded along that bumpy road with the engine belts throwing water into the back of the car accumulating a couple of inches of water. I had no brakes till I hit Wiarton. The next day I pulled up in front of the VW dealership in OS insisting a mechanic punch a couple of holes in the floorboards in case this would happen again. I could read their eyes “crazy woman”!
One of many stories owning “love bugs”
An update on this painting as of August 5 2021. “Skinners Bluff” was chosen to be the cover design for the 2022 Bruce Trail Conservancy Calendar. I’m honoured!
